Meet the Team!

Hi all, as we're new, we wanted to give you a chance to know who's behind this project and what we all do here!

Mia - Co-Creator of Swamped Records, Artist Manager (@mod.est.mia)

Hey I'm Mia, a music head in the Arts and Cultural Management program at Macewan. As a big ska and punk fan, my identity was shaped around the local music scene, and spending as much time as I could supporting bands. I have helped put on shows with my mentors, done many a door shift, and you can find me at the merch table when I'm not standing front and center at shows. I have dreamt of working more closely with performing artists since I was very young, and have brought that passion into my music management career.

Swamped Records is a shared project created by myself and my boyfriend, Ty. The two of us wanted to give back to the community that fostered our own personal musical growth and share what we have learnt with others while supporting young artists in their blossoming careers.

Ty - Co-Creator of Swamped Records, Reporter (@tythepizzaguy)

My name is Tyler Holloway - Ty for short! As long as I have remembered, I had had a passion for radio and the arts. Being brought up in a family where music came first, with my Dad's first love being sound and recording - it was only a matter of time before I caught that same bug.

Swamped Records in the culmination of my passions for politics, radio and music. As a graduate of Political Science and Religious Studies at the University of Alberta - I was looking to create a space where we can discuss both the art I love, as well as what makes the local scene in Canada come alive. I look forward to this journey with all of you!

Layla - Writer for Swamped Records (@laylamdart)

Carley - Graphic Artist for Swamped Records (@astoria.designs)

I'm an eccentric artist/graphic designer with a passion for music! Like, I LOVE music. No matter what genre, even if it isn't in a language I understand, I can appreciate the passion and creativity. Music truly brings people together and creates a sense of community, which really sets this industry apart. Think of being in a crowd when your favourite band is on stage; you could walk up to anyone in that venue and you'd instantly have an icebreaker topic. There's a whole lifetime of experiences and emotions behind the meaning of just one song. By having a safe space to appreciate the same thing, but resonate differently in each person, that's nothing short of magic. My goal as an artist is to connect people to communities they feel welcomed in. My favourite genres would include ska, punk/pop-punk and grunge/alternative, and all of these communities are incredibly inclusive, leaving no space for hate. I'm so glad to work alongside a team that cherishes the same values!
